Why Repotting is Important

Repotting, aka "potting up," is a necessary annual transition to give your plant's roots room to grow and provide it with fresh soil.

When to Repot

Repotting should happen every year, especially when your plant is young. The best time of year to repot is late winter/early spring before the new leaves appear.

How to Repot

These are the six steps to follow every single year....

1. Wait Until Spring

This is when the plant can best recover from repotting.

2. Select the Soil & Pot

Choose a well-draining soil and a pot that is slightly larger than the previous one — preferably with drainage holes.

3. Prepare the Pot

When you're ready, begin the repotting process by flling at least 1/4 to 2/3 of the pot with the new soil mix.

4. Carefully Remove the Plant

Turn over pot with the Monstera in it. Give it a jiggle if your plant is stuck — but do not pull on it. Gently ease it out. And ask a friend for help as needed, especially for larger plants.

5. Put It In New Pot

Gently place it into the new pot and tie it to a new stake to ensure it is able to keep growing up.
